'Kondo-ing' is the new dating trend and it's the harshest one yet

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that the nation has fallen hook, line and sinker for the hit Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, where the tidying guru endeavours to help people declutter their homes – and their lives – with radical results.

Based on the guru’s best-selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, the home makeover show taught us all that we can change our relationship with objects and use tidying to inspire a new state of mind.

Now, it seems that Kondo-ing has caught on in the dating world.

According to dating site Plenty of Fish, people are now applying the newfound principles of their tidying regime to their prospective love interests.

By the KonMari cleaning method, if your personal belongings aren’t “sparking joy” in your life, they go straight in the black rubbish bag.

By that same token, Kondo-ing sees people cutting their love interests out of their lives if they aren’t bringing joy, with no prior warning, and no resolve to work out any issues.

It’s the literal equivalent of donating a bag of old clothes to the charity shop; quick, simple, no explanations needed.

Someone not replying to your messages? Kondo them. Someone can’t decide whether to commit but still happy for a hookup? Kondo them. Ghosting, R-bombing, mind games? Kondo them.

Cut-throat.
