Kodak Black pleads guilty to assault and battery

Kodak Black has pleaded guilty to assault and battery.

The rapper – real name Bill Kapri – has been handed an 18-month probation and 10-year suspended prison sentence.

The charges relate to an incident involving high school student following a show in Florence County, South Carolina in 2016.

He was was indicted in 2017 on first-degree sexual assault charges, which he previously denied, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charges.

The court heard that the rapper tried to have a ‘romantic relationship’ with the alleged victim, which she did not want, and that he had bitten her.

He said this was true.

Kodak Black said: ‘I apologise. I’m hopeful we can all moved forward. I wish her the best in her life.’

As part of the plea, he also agreed to counselling.

Last year, the Wake Up In The Sky hitmaker received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in his last day in office in relation to weapon charges.

A statement on Kodak Black’s commutation noted his commitment to philanthropy, such as providing education resources to students and families of fallen law enforcement officers and the underprivileged. 

It continued: ‘In addition to these efforts, he has paid for the notebooks of school children, provided funding and supplies to daycare centers, provided food for the hungry, and annually provides for underprivileged children during Christmas. 

‘Most recently while still incarcerated, Kodak Black donated $50,000 (£36,000) to David Portnoy’s Barstool Fund, which provides funds to small businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Kodak Black’s only request was that his donation go toward restaurants in his hometown.’ 

Kodak Black’s commutation was supported by numerous religious leaders and celebrities such as Gucci Mane, Lil Pump, Lil Yachty and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
