JURGEN KLOPP is set to be offered a bumper new contract by Liverpool, it has been reported.
The Reds’ players believe their Champions League final victory over Tottenham signals the start of a golden era and the club want to see that come to fruition.
According to the Guardian, Liverpool’s owners are going to act quickly to tie down one of the most sought after managers in the world.
The German’s current deal is worth £7million-a-year and runs until 2022.
But the Merseyside club are keen to reward him for a historic season that saw them record their record Premier League points total and secure the Champions League trophy in Madrid.
Klopp has recently ignored talk of a new contract insisting he is happy with his current deal.
But the club are understandably keen to tie him down after the 51-year-old delivered the first trophy of his Liverpool reign.
The charismatic coach seems to be on the same page too as – speaking at the trophy parade through the city – he said: “This is only the beginning.”
Many of the Reds’ biggest stars – including Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold – are signed up until at least 2023 and owners Fenway Sports Group are said to want to follow suit with their leader.
After Liverpool became European champions for the sixth time, Klopp stunned TV viewers by admitting he is ‘normally half-p***ed 20 minutes’ after winning a match.
An early Salah penalty and a late Divock Origi strike saw Liverpool win the trophy – and Klopp described it as the best night of his professional life.
