Kim Kardashian reveals daughter North wants to visit prisons with her as she tackles reform

Kim Kardashian says daughter North wants to visit prisons with her

Kim Kardashian says daughter North wants to go with her when she visits prisons and those she wants to help get released.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has been campaigning for prison reform in the US and last year, she managed to secure the release of 17 inmates in 90 days.

Kim is studying to become a lawyer, like her dad Robert, and plans to take the bar in California in 2022, as part of her four-year apprenticeship with a San Franciso law firm.

She is often meeting with inmates to see if she can help and speaking to Us Weekly, Kim revealed that daughter North, six, is taking a huge interest in the cause.

‘If I say, “OK guys, I have to go, I’m going to prison today,” North will say, “Mummy’s helping people,” and “Can I go with you? Tell this person I said hi,” if I told her I’m visiting a specific person and show their letters,’ Kim said.

‘She’s really compassionate.’

Kim said that studying for her law exams has meant she’s had to ‘cut out a lot of all the extra stuff’, like spending time with her friends, so she can juggle studying with work and her family life.

She made headlines when she secured the release of Alice Marie Johnson, who was previously sentenced to life behind bars for a non-violent offence, in 2018.

And wanting to educate fans on her fight for prison reform, Kim recently revealed she and husband Kanye have bought cinema screenings of Jamie Foxx’s new movie, Just Mercy, that tells the story of Water McMillian – a black man wrongly accused of killing an 18-year-old white woman.

He teams up with defense lawyer Byran Stevenson (Jordan), who’s devoted to freeing wrongly convicted inmates, to overturn his sentence.

Kim explained that she and Kanye have teamed up with non-profit organisation Represent Justice after being ‘moved’ by the movie. They’re now giving fans the chance to win free tickets to the screenings and insisted they’ll be ‘blown away’ by the film.

Last year, Kim defended her decision to become a lawyer, after facing backlash from some online.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘As my first year is almost coming to an end I am preparing for the baby bar, a mini version of the bar, which is required when studying law this way. I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or my money that got me here, but that’s not the case.

‘One person actually said I should “stay in my lane.” I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am. The state bar doesn’t care who you are.

It hasn’t been easy, as Kim added that she actually changed her number to ‘disconnect’ from everyone, so she could commit to her studies.

‘For anyone assuming this is the easy way out, it’s not. My weekends are spent away from my kids while I read and study,’ she revealed.

‘I work all day, put my kids to bed and spend my nights studying. There are times I feel overwhelmed and when I feel like I can’t do it, but I get the pep talks I need from the people around me supporting me.’
