Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier is hopeful of a move to Manchester United and is already making arrangements to return to the Premier League.

The right-back joined the La Liga giants from Tottenham in 2019 and he was named in the team of the year after Diego Simeone’s side pipped Barcelona and Real Madrid to the title this season.

However, Trippier’s family still reside in the north-west and the Bury-born defender is keen on returning to England after sampling life in Spain.

United were interested in Trippier during his time at Tottenham but decided to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for a fee approaching £50m.

While Solskjaer is delighted with Wan-Bissaka’s progress, the Manchester Evening News claim the Norwegian has revived the club’s interest in Trippier as a back-up to the former Palace defender.

Wan-Bissaka’s defensive capabilities cannot be questioned but his weakness is in attack and opponents often allow the defender full range of the right flank in order to focus on United’s stronger left side.

Solskjaer believes Trippier could rebalance United’s attack as the former Spurs man has a deadly cross and is more comfortable in possession.

Solskjaer also feels the added competition that Alex Telles has provided for Luke Shaw at left-back has worked wonders for the England international and has helped take him to new heights this term.

The belief is that Trippier could apply the same pressure on Wan-Bissaka and help him to become the player United need in the long-term.

Trippier was one of four right-backs to be named in England’s 26-man squad for the European Championships and Wan-Bissaka is yet to receive a single call-up for the Three Lions.
