Kieran Tierney hopes to be available for first team selection by the end of September and make his Arsenal debut after the first international break of the season.

The Scotland left-back finally completed his move to Arsenal on deadline day after the north London club’s summer-long pursuit ended with the Gunners agreeing to pay Celtic £25million.

Tierney hasn’t made a competitive appearance since the middle of May and played no part in the Scottish champions’ pre-season campaign having recently undergone a double hernia operation.

The 22-year-old will compete with Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal for the left-back spot in Unai Emery’s new-look team.

Tierney met his new teammates, including Rob Holding, at Arsenal’s London Colney training base on Thursday and was overheard telling the England Under-21 international, himself nearing the end of an arduous 10-month recovery from a cruciate knee ligmanet injury, he hoped to be back, fully fit in six weeks’ time.

In his first official interview with the club, meanwhile, Tierney revealed how hard he found it to leave his boyhood club, but admitted Arsenal represented the next logical step in his career.

He said: ‘Yeah, it was the hardest decision in my whole life that I’ve had to make. I had to speak to my family and my close friends and my agent as well because it’s a hard decision to leave a club that you love so much.

‘People need to know that as well. I feel Arsenal is a massive club and it’s a great opportunity for me as well. I’m delighted to be here.’
