Actor and musician Kiefer Sutherland has been forced to postpone the remaining dates of his music tour after falling and injuring himself.

The 52-year-old, who is best known for playing Jack Bauer in 24, revealed he slipped and fell on his tour bus steps, injuring his ribs in the process.

He said that the injury has ‘made it difficult to breathe’, but hopes the shows will return in either September or October.

In an Instagram post, he said: ‘Sadly I slipped on the steps of the bus while travelling to Denmark and seriously injured a rib, making it difficult to breathe and impossible to sing.

‘Regretfully, I will not be able to perform the last three shows of our tour, but I have every intention of making up these shows up in September/October when we return.’

He later apologised to the fans who had brought tickets to see him, and promised he ‘will do everything he can to make it up to them’.

Many fans subsequently wished him well in the comments.

‘Accidents happen unfortunately, just take care of yourself first. Your health is what’s the most important thing,’ one said.

‘Wishing you a speedy recovery! And hope to see you in October!’ another added, while adding a cheeky wink emoji.

And this also gave fans the perfect opportunity to add in some 24 references.

‘Jack Bauer needs no ribs: he’s bulletproof,’ one fan said.

Another simply interjected: ‘Dammit’ – a phrase regularly uttered by the characters of the series.

Kiefer had been on tour in support of his second studio album, Reckless & Me, in which he performed for fans across North America and Europe.

Singing aside, Kiefer also stars in the third season to the Netflix series Designated Survivor, in which he plays Tom Kirkman, a man sworn in as President of the United States following an attack on the Capitol building which killed the entire government.

However, Netflix recently confirmed the show will not be back for a fourth season.
