Comedian Kevin Hart’s car is said to have lacked some of the key safety features it should have had, which could have spared him his horrific injuries.

Kevin, 40, was left with a ‘major back injury’ which will require extensive physical therapy after his Plymouth Barracuda – which he wasn’t driving at the time – careered off the road and ended up in a ditch last week.

He needed emergency back surgery and was left unable to move or talk immediately after the horrific smash which totalled the car, but thankfully all the passengers and driver escaped alive.

According to car experts, the vehicle was lacking key safety features including a five-point harness and roll cage, TMZ reports.

Several car customizing shops have told the site that performance vehicles such as Kevin’s, which have in excess of 720 horsepower, should be fitted with the harness and roll cage for safety.

Kevin suffered three fractures to his spine after the car crashed through a fence off the Mulholland Highway in Malibu and landed in a ditch 10 feet off the road.

He had to have three sections of his spine fused during emergency surgery and is also expected to need months of rehabilitation to help his recovery

Witnesses heard a screech of tyres as the friend that was driving Kevin and another friend lost control of the car.

Pictures were later released of what was left of the car, which had been totally destroyed by the crash, with the roof needing to be cut off to free the occupants of the vehicle.

According to The Blast, doctors believe Kevin will be able to recover from his injuries as he didn’t suffer any spinal cord damage.

His wife, Eniko Parrish, told TMZ: ‘He’s gonna be just fine. He’s good, everybody’s good. Thank God. He’s fine, he’s awake.’
