Pep Guardiola has downplayed the severity of Kevin De Bruyne’s injury but admits the midfielder could miss Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Wolves on Sunday.

The Belgium international has been in sublime form for City this season with two goals and nine assists in eight appearances so far.

But De Bruyne has not trained with the rest of his City teammates this week and was absent on Tuesday evening as Guardiola’s side sealed a 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

De Bruyne continues to recovery from the ankle injury he suffered in the win over Everton last weekend but could be rested ahead of the international break which begins after City face Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Asked about De Bruyne’s injury after City’s win over Dinamo Zagreb, Guardiola said: ‘It’s not serious.

‘Today he could not play.

‘We will see for next Sunday but right now I don’t know.

‘After international break, he will be fit.’
