Karen Hauer, 38, has spoken out on the breakdown of her marriage to ex Kevin Clifton, 37, as she admitted they began to verbally “attack” each other on a daily basis. The dancer from Venezuela divulged her guarded behaviour towards the ballroom choreographer resulted in him calling her “not very kind” at one point.
Opening up the difficulties the couple faced towards the end of their relationship, Karen recalled: “It’s six years down the line and things started going wrong, just little things, like a phone call, like, ‘You didn’t call me the whole day.’
Karen shared it was important in a relationship to compromise, as she continued: “‘OK that’s fine, you’re working. I am working too. We’re working the same job but, I take time to call you’.”
However, in slightly more tense disagreements, Karen shared Kevin would mistake her guarded personality for being “not very nice”.
She continued: “Sometimes I would get the, ‘You’re not very kind, You’re not very nice’. Then I was just like, ‘What do you mean, I don’t understand.’ You know I can be very intense in my private life.
However, despite the difficulty of a widely talked about break-up, Karen shared she felt “stronger” because of it.
She went on: “Huge lessons for me. Because of that break-up and what I had to go through emotionally, physically, work-wise and in the public eye – it made me stronger, and it made me realise what I really need to work on, and that was me.
“I had to work with him for two, three years after we got separated and it was hard because you can see how much love you have for one another, and the respect.”
