Kevin Clifton admits to backstage ‘tantrum’ on Strictly: 'I have a bit of a meltdown’

Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, 37, caught up with his fellow dancer Janette Manrara on his podcast The Kevin Clifton show to discuss his time on the BBC show.

During their conversation, he admitted he had a “bit of a meltdown” at least once a series behind-the-scenes on the show.

Revealing all in his latest episode, he said: “The wardrobe team always talk about this story…

“Once a season on Strictly, I have a meltdown, you never know when it’s going to happen, but at some point, I have a bit of a meltdown and a bit of a tantrum.

“I think there’s another season where I’ve had it twice, but [it’s] normally once.”

Speaking about a particular moment in Blackpool, he said he was unhappy with an outfit choice and queried the team behind-the-scenes.

He added: “It happened at Blackpool, and it’s so funny to look back on now, you know when you’re fully invested into something and you look back now and you’re like, it really didn’t matter.

“I had it in my head that at Blackpool, because of the whole grandness of it, you have to look expensive.

“I seemed to be very concerned at the time that everyone had sparkly outfits and we didn’t have sparkles,” he added which prompted Janette to laugh.

Kevin’s celebrity partners on the show have included the likes of Kellie Bright, Frankie Bridge, Louise Redknapp and Anneka Rice.

He won the BBC dance show for the first time with Stacey Dooley in 2018.

Shortly after winning the show, Stacey split from her boyfriend of five years Sam Tucknott. She then began dating Kevin and the pair have seemingly gone from strength to strength ever since.

Ahead of his podcast with Janette, Kevin caught up with his ex dance partner Kellie.

As the pair reflected on their dancing journey together, Kevin revealed Stacey got jealous when she watched his show dance with Kellie.

Back in 2015, the pair performed their show dance to Ding Dong Daddy of the D Car Line.

He told the EastEnders star: “I was watching our dances back with Stacey.

“Stacey, when we talk about our run, she hated our show dance.

“She was like, ‘I feel like it was one of my worst dances, I don’t like watching that one back, I hated the show dance’.”

He added that Stacey said: “‘Kellie’s lucky for having that show dance, isn’t she? I wish I could’ve done that one’.”
