Kerry Katona has admitted a sense of relief over the death of ex-husband George Kay, recalling how he put her family ‘through hell’.

George, 39, died on Friday 5 July from a suspected drug overdose, after he was found collapsed at home.

Kerry remained silent on his passing until earlier this week when she shared a number of quotes under the caption: ‘RIP.’

She’s now spoke in detail about her feelings on George’s death, expressing relief that her five-year-old daughter Dylan-Jorge – known as DJ – will not be exposed to his ‘psychotic episodes’.

Speaking to The Mirror, Kerry said: ‘George couldn’t be saved. He was always going to die.

‘To be honest it’s almost a relief he died when he did, when DJ is at this age.

‘This way DJ is saved from having to grow up witnessing all the psychotic episodes he would have had. You have to remember the hell he put us through.’

Kerry also explained how she believes if George hadn’t of died, his episodes perhaps would have killed her instead.

‘If he hadn’t have died, it would’ve been me,’ Kerry added.

‘My mum says she was just waiting for the call from the police to say he’d killed me. And I know myself, I’d have never been able to relax unless he was either back in jail or dead.

‘Now he’s dead, there’s a sense of relief.’

Kerry and George met in 2012 and married September 2014, five months after she gave birth to their daughter Dylan-Jorge.

In October 2015 she confirmed they had split, alleging he had assaulted her.

He was arrested by police but charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence; Kerry had a restraining order out against him and it was thought he hadn’t seen his daughter in over a year.

In 2017 they split for good, with a source claiming tensions had ‘reached breaking point’ and ‘it all came to head when George told Kerry that he was tired of acting as a nanny to her kids’.

Kerry has two daughters from her previous marriage to Westlife’s Brian McFadden, Molly, 16, Lilly-Sue, 14, along with 10-year-old Heidi. She also has nine-year-old Maxwell with second husband Mark Croft.
