Kepa Arrizabalaga was ‘stunned’ at being dropped by Frank Lampard but expects to start for Chelsea in their upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Lampard made the bold decision to axe under-performing goalkeeper Kepa for Chelsea’s trip to Leicester City before the winter break, with veteran Willy Caballero starting in goal.

Chelsea made Kepa the most expensive shot-stopper in history when they signed him for £72million from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 but the Spaniard has struggled this season.

According to The Sun, Kepa was ‘stunned’ at being dropped for the Foxes clash, even though Lampard had warned him that his performances must improve.

And it is claimed the Spanish goalkeeper expects to return for the visit of struggling Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

Kepa is said to have held talks with Lampard this week and is eager to respond to his axing in the right way and rediscover his top form.

Chelsea enjoyed a superb start to the season under club legend Lampard and, while results have fallen away of late, the Blues remain in the top four.

Explaining his decision to drop Kepa for the Leicester clash, Lampard said: ‘It’s a decision I have not taken lightly.

‘They train together, they are are close and it’s one I thought I’d make for this game. I trust in Willy, he’s very professional.’

Chelsea are six points and four places above Manchester United in the Premier League ahead of Monday’s clash in west London.
