Get ready to flock to London’s largest park this summer as Kendrick Lamar has been announced as the second BST Hyde Park 2020 headliner.

The Humble rapper will close out the first weekend of the annual London music festival on Sunday 5 July when he’ll be supported by James Blake and Brittany Howard and a host of other acts yet to be revealed.

He’s in great company on the line-up as Taylor Swift and Pearl Jam were previously announced as headliners, while girl group Little Mix are also set to perform.

Fans have missed Kendrick, 32, who released his last album Damn back in 2017. The 14-track album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and number two in the UK and spawned the hit singles Humble, Love and Loyalty featuring Rihanna.

Loyalty went on to win the best rap/sung performance at the Grammy Awards in 2018.

Kendrick’s confirmed performance at BST Hyde Park lends to rumours the rapper has new music on the way.

Earlier this month, Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werde claimed to have word from industry sources that Kendrick was working on a rock-inspired album.

We suspect Kendrick’s new album is on the way

Erm, we are here for it.

Bill tweeted: ‘Are you interested to know that I hear from several friends that recording on the new album may finally be done?

‘And that he’s pulling in more rock sounds this time?’

Kendrick hasn’t been totally absent from music the past three years, as he curated the critically-acclaimed soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther and earned an impressive four Grammy nominations for his own track, All of the Stars, which featured vocals from Sza.

BST Hyde Park might not be Kendrick’s only festival appearance in the UK this summer, as he’s also rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury in June.

Organiser Emily Eavis fuelled speculation and told BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball: ‘Interestingly, for the other two headliners it’s their first time at Glastonbury and we’ve got one male and one female – so there’s a couple of clues there. I’m sure people will guess, so don’t put them to me!’
