The news has stoked rumours that the Compton-bred performer will release a fifth studio album, three years after the release of the Pulitzer-prize winning album Damn, with some suggesting that Lamar could be slated as the Friday headliner at Glastonbury.

Whispers of an album embroidered with “rock sounds” also surfaced earlier this month.

Where and when is Kendrick Lamar playing?

The rapper, nicknamed Kung Fu Kenny, will close out the first weekend of the BST Festival at Hyde Park on Sunday, July 5.

The festival takes place a week after Glastonbury, with strong rumours linking Lamar to the Friday slot of the Somerset festival.

BST Festival is one of a string of festivals that the 32-year-old is set to play this Summer – he’s also due to play BBK in Bilbao, Lollaalooza in Stockholm, as well as a concert at Marlay Park near Dublin.

Tickets for BST Festival go on general sale on Friday January 24 2020 at 9:30am – these will be available to purchase at AXS and Festickets.

Who else is playing the festival?

James Blake and Brittany Howard are both serving as support for the rapper on the first Sunday of the festival which spans two weekends.

Popstars Little Mix, Rita Ora, Kesha and Zara Larsson will all perform at the festival on Saturday, July 4, while Friday, July 10, will see grunge legends Pixies and American rock outift Pearl Jam perform.

Taylor Swift, meanwhile, will be the headliner on the second Saturday (July 11).

More acts are set to be announced.

Kendrick Lamar album rumours

Rumours of a Kendrick Lamar began circling on January 11 when former editorial director of Billboard, Bill Werde, tweeted that production of the album was “finally done”.

He said: Did anyone not named Beyonce release better, more meaningful back-to-back albums last decade than Kendrick Lamar?

“Are you interested to know that I hear from several friends that recording on the new album may finally be done?”

Werde also speculated on the sound of a potential fifth album, teasing, “he’s pulling in more rock sounds”.
