Kendall Jenner Just Brought Back A Surprising 2000s Staple

The early 2000s were an iconic moment in time for fashion. Dominated by wild party girls such as Paris Hilton, the Hollywood scene was filled with looks heavy on the sparkle, often body-clinging or printed in wild patterns. Nineties minimalism? We don’t know her! Flash-forward to today, and designers seem to be making a return to that time period. Deliberate “bad taste” is officially in, including everything from fishnet tops to accessories glue-gunned with crystals; so are splashy monograms, which have been enveloping everything from bags to shoes.

But the latest early-aughts piece making a comeback? As worn by Kendall Jenner, it’s a staple item that dominated the decade. Today, the model hit the streets in Los Angeles in a spunky one-shouldered top. The skin-revealing piece has an early Destiny’s Child feel to it, or Hilton simply hitting the club in 2004. Jenner styled her green version, which had a going-out vibe, in a more casual way: with ripped, high-waisted denim and some on-trend dad sneakers. Still, for a touch of luxe, she slung on a Louis Vuitton shoulder bag that was a collaboration with Jeff Koons featuring imagery of the Mona Lisa.

Call Jenner’s outfit a modern ode to the early 2000s—and with her recent affinity for retro pieces such as babushkas and leather trenches, she’s clearly on a time-traveling roll.
