Kehlani released her song You Know Wassup in response to YG’s Halloween cheating scandals and fans became concerned for her mental health.
The singer was silent when her boyfriend, rapper YG, was spotted kissing another woman outside a Los Angeles club on Halloween.
But now, Kehlani released You Know Wassup which has YG’s voice in the introduction as well as vulnerable lyrics that had fans worrying about what happened.
Uploading a snap of a teddy bear, flowers and a card that read the song name, Kehlani wrote: ‘unmixed unmastered… just a couple hours ago. thank you @itstherascals x @antoniodixonmusic for the production & @leonthomas for the amazing extra vocals/production.. You Know Wassup on my soundcloud.. link in bio.’
A few hours after the release, the 24-year-old had to reassure fans that she was doing good.
She tweeted: ‘the fire thing about music is you can express the wildest and furthest parts of the emotions youre experiencing, even just the things the little back of your head voice is screaming.. or even the devil on your shoulder. flush it out and it keep it flowin.
‘But naw forreal, i’m good y’all. i see people starting a hashtag about hoping my mental is ok and me possibly needing a therapist. lmao. i’m straight forreal. i’m an artist. i dive inward. glad it’s doing something for you all tho. love you (sic)’.
Kehlani still hasn’t addressed the scandal publicly, but YG – real name Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson – had released a brief statement on his Instagram story saying he loves Kehlani and that he ‘would never’.
The two went public with their relationship during New York Fashion Week in September, with Kehlani sharing several pics of them kissing at dinner.
They have not posted any photos of each other since right before rumours circulated.
Some of her lyrics read: ‘You got demons, I got trauma/ We both got triggers, I hate drama/ I’m embarrassed, I’m in shock/ He wide open, and I don’t stop.
‘And I watch your demons cause me trauma/ Now I’m triggered, all this drama/ You’re embarrassed and in shock/ We still in love and this s**t don’t stop.’
She also sings about not being ‘ashamed of s**t’ as she still wants ‘to be Mrs Jackson’.
