Katy Perry has opened up about how she managed to break the ‘desperate loop’ she had been in, as she tried to become the ‘best pop star ever’.

The singer, 35, who is pregnant with her first child with Orlando Bloom, 43, has spoken about how she managed to change her mindset after suffering dark times following her 2017 album Witness not doing well.

She revealed to People that she underwent a week-long personal development retreat called the Hoffman Process, which helps people did into the negative behaviours they have picked up from childhood.

Katy revealed: ‘We all have negative conversations going on in your head that can take the wheel. You have to take the wheel back, and I definitely did.

‘It got me out of this desperate loop of being the best pop star ever. I just really want to be a human being and have the dimension of life.

‘[Now] I get to live life, and I get to bring life into the world. Finding the gratitude in this pain has been a real journey, but the outcome is worth it.’

The singer, who is heavily pregnant, has also been promoting her sixth album Smile as well as preparing to give birth to her first child amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She admitted that having the support of Orlando has helped her navigate this strange time – including pushing back their wedding and the release of her album.

Katy revealed: ‘Every day your options change, and you don’t know what’s what. Especially being pregnant in a pandemic.

‘Having a great partner, having a sound mind, continuing to do the work, I’m not as flinchable.

‘I’m not untouchable or invincible, but it’s a little bit more like water off a duck’s back.’
