Katy Perry performs new single Small Talk in bathroom with full backing band

Katy Perry picked an unusual location for a performance of her new single Small Talk.

The 34-year-old singer sang her latest hit in a “medium sized bathroom” in a video shared to Instagram on Thursday night, accompanied by a full backing band.

The I Kissed A Girl singer stood out in a pink feathered dress while her band and back up singers all dressed in similar printed black and white outfits.

“Potty jams, featuring Small Talk,” she said as she as the video began with her standing next to a urinal.

She had two keyboard players, one sitting on a urinal and another standing, a guitarist perched on a toilet, and her drummer on an acoustic box, on one side of the bathroom.

Meanwhile, her backup singers stationed themselves on the other side, with one even playing an additional keyboard on top of a bin while singing along.

As the song finished, one of her instrumentalists, who was sitting on the loo, flushed the toilet and said, “that’s the s***!”

In the video, she flashed her engagement ring as she danced around the bathroom.

Perry previously did a ‘potty jams’ for Never Really Over, the first single from her forthcoming sixth album, but recorded the video herself in the bathroom mirror with a small group from her band behind her.

She has described the new song as a narrative between former lovers, who after a break up have resorted to acting like strangers and engaging in small talk.

In the track she sings, “And isn’t it awkward I got a new somebody,” which has been interpreted as a reference to her engagement to Orlando Bloom.

She has been dating Bloom since 2016 and he proposed on Valentine’s Day this year.

In the meantime, the Teenage Dream singer has crushed some rumours on an Instagram Q&A, rubbishing speculation that she would be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards next week.

Speaking to her fans, she said: “I am not performing on the VMAs, so not everything you read on the internet is true. Go figure.

“I personally think “www” stands for wild wild west … I always say if it doesn’t come from me, take it with a grain of Himalayan salt.”
