Katy Perry has been a champion of hair experimentation throughout her career – she’s a longtime fan of the transformative magic of wigs, after all.
But, there’s no doubting that in recent years she’s most well known for her long raven hair, worn middle-parted and usually in soft waves.
Does that mean there’s no room for changing it up? No siree. Just this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, the singer appeared on the red carpet wearing micro bangs and a sleek ponytail – only to later reveal that it was a clip-in.
“Baby, this bang isn’t real – but my love for you is,” she told her fiancé Orlando Bloom in her TikTok video that has since racked up over 22million views.

And a few days later, at the Kering for Women Dinner in New York, Katy once again upped the ante with her hair look – by adding some XXL extensions that took her to, quite frankly, bum-grazing lengths.
She’s not alone, either, since extra-long hair is 2024’s trend antithesis to the also-reigning bob haircut. We’ve seen Daisy Edgar-Jones, Miley Cyrus and Sienna Miller embrace longer hair looks this year – while the Met Gala saw plenty more stars reach for the extensions, including Kendall Jenner, Demi Moore (who went even longer than usual) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
And though boho waves are proving to be the most popular way to wear XXL lengths this year, Katy Perry is going her own way and opting for a super-straight style, if her latest look is anything to go by.
Honestly, ultra-long hair extensions don’t make for the most low-maintenance of hairstyles (just think of aaaall that brushing) – so we wouldn’t be surprised if Katy saves her most OTT wefts for the red carpet only. Or scratch that, maybe she’ll try a bob next?!
