Katie Piper health update: ‘It’s gory’ Strictly star speaks out on ‘procedure’

Katie Piper, 35, recently revealed she was due to have a procedure carried out by a health clinic after having problems with her eye. The Strictly Come Dancing star, who was left severely burned following an acid attack in 2008, took to Instagram and shared a photo of her eye after she visited the hospital. In view of her 878,000 followers, she captioned the post: “Thanks for all your messages asking how my eye is after last weeks procedure. “Sorry I can’t stay on top of DMs so will give you an update here. I’m doing really well no infections.”

She continued: “I’m using Prednisone and chloramphenicol direct into the eye 4 times a day and it looks as if some of the eye has cleared so I’m feeling positive about it and looking forward to going back to the eye clinic for my follow up.

“Thank you to everyone who has sent well wishes and also to all of you who have been sharing your medical and own eyesight journeys with me.

“I thought I would upload this picture – I know for some people it might be a strange even gory image but I think it’s quite beautiful in an artistic way being able to see the marks where treatment took place in the eye serves as reminder of how amazing the human body really is along with skill of the doctors and surgeons that treat us.”

Katie concluded: “And as a side note if you really want to be amazing by what’s medically possible my eye lids upper and lower where rebuilt using the skin from both sides of my groin!”

Fans rushed to comment on the post, with many sending well wishes to the TV personality.

One person said: “I hope you heal quickly and that you’re much better soon.”

Another person commented: “Hope you heal very soon.”

While third person added: “Thinking of you.”

The lengthy post comes after the philanthropist spoke to about her plans for her eye.

She explained: “As soon as I’ve finished at work this morning I’ve actually got to go into hospital today to have a procedure on my bad eye because I’ve been getting some problems with it.”

Meanwhile, the Strictly star was left needing treatment for sepsis after the infection spread to her blood in May.

Saying it had been a “scary” end to the month, the mother-of-two took time to thank those that had looked after her.

Sharing a heartfelt post, she wrote: “Happy Days…I have been officially discharged from treatment for my infection.

“So this should be my final selfie from the ward for a while. I didn’t want to post too many details on here until I knew what was going to be the outcome.”

The star continued: “Thank you to everyone who has sent me get well soon msgs, cards and gifts.

“I had a kidney infection that spread to my blood leaving me being treated for Sepsis.”(sic)

Katie has undergone over 40 surgeries since being left with severe burns to her face, neck and chest after her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch organised for an associate, Stefan Sylvestre, to throw acid over her in 2008.

In 2009, Lynch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years behind bars, while Sylvestre was given life with a minimum of six years.

Earlier this year, Sylvestre was released from prison, with a spokesperson for the Parole Board saying: “Decisions are solely focused on whether a prisoner would represent a significant risk to the public after release.

“The panel will have carefully looked at a whole range of evidence, including details of the original evidence and any evidence of behaviour change. We do that with great care and public safety is our number one priority.”
