Katherine Ryan reveals how boyfriend fought off masked man who broke into their London home

Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan has told how her boyfriend fought off a masked intruder to save her scripts following a burglary at their London home.

Ms Ryan posted an Instagram story showing police at her home, along with the caption: “Cool to be robbed tonight by a masked man in our home.”

The 36-year-old went on to describe how her boyfriend Bobby Kootstra had fought off the masked man who was trying to steal her laptop, which contained her scripts for her Netflix series.

In another video posted on social media, she is seen pointing out blood on the laptop case.

She told fans: “This is why I love Bobby K, he got in a fight and wrestled back my Netflix series, all my scripts.”

The actress is writing a series called The Duchess in which she plays a “fashionable disruptive single mom”.

Since the attack, the comedian has joked on social media about finding it difficult to sleep, writing: “That’s fine, I never liked sleeping anyway”.

She also said she had got a German Shepherd to protect the house because her small dogs were “asleep at the wheel”.

Ms Ryan has also appealed for help tracking down an item of jewellery that she said was stolen in the raid, incase it appears in pawn shops around the city.

She posted a picture of the ring and wrote: “Is there a way to circulate this foreshadowing ring around pawn shops that the masked man stole before he was tackled into the street?”

Ms Ryan has been living in London for more than a decade and lives with childhood sweetheart Mr Kootstra.

The pair were reportedly reunited after two decades during a chance meeting while filming for BBC series Who Do You Think You Are? in her hometown of Sarnia, west of Toronto.

The Standard has contacted the Met Police for comment.
