KATHERINE Jenkins has proven ability to lay down a film soundtrack – but now she’s getting in front of the camera.
The mezzo-soprano singer has landed a role opposite Johnny Depp and Bill Nighy in an upcoming movie, which will be her first major movie acting part.
She will play a character called Millie in the film, Minamata, which is conveniently being directed by her husband Andrew Levitas.
The independent drama focuses on war photographer W. Eugene Smith, played by Johnny, exposing the poisoning of the people of Minamata, Japan, during the Second World War.
She shot scenes for the film in Serbia in February and it now looks set to be released next year.
An industry insider said: “Katherine is delighted by the role and was really excited to be acting opposite such huge, talented stars.
“She thinks it could potentially be the start of a new career and she would love to do more.
“Producers were impressed with her stints on the small screen previously and think she has amazing stage presence.” During her 15-year career in music, Katherine has released 12 studio albums and been named as the No1 classical music artist of the past 25 years.
The mum-of-two had her first acting role as a character called Abigail Pettigrew in the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol.
Then in 2017 she played the romantic lead Julie Jordan in a West End version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel.
But Katherine’s casting in a big film production is a complete U-turn from a statement of four years ago, when she said she wasn’t tempted to try her luck in Hollywood.
The star said: “I’ve been approached to do things but I wouldn’t necessarily want to be in a film for the sake of being in a film. That is not my passion.”
I suppose marrying a film buff will do that to you…

Hot Pixie is a pink rocker
PIXIE Lott wasn’t on the line-up for Coachella, but she doesn’t look too bothered about it.
The Mama Do singer partied at the US music festival in a pair of hot pants, a funky bralette and purple sunglasses.
Fellow Brits Lottie Moss and Maya Jama also attended the star-studded event in California where Childish Gambino and The 1975 played.
Kate Moss’s little sister had dyed pink locks like Pixie while Stormzy’s girlfriend Maya played it cool in ice-white shorts and a metallic vest which she wore over a sequinned bikini top.
Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards missed the celebrations – but she found time to whip off for her jacket for her own Instagram photoshoot while on holiday down the road in LA.

A YEAR on from her debut album Invasion Of Privacy, which has since gone triple platinum, Cardi B is busy on the follow-up. She said: “I’m starting to prepare myself now because I’m really trying to put out an album for this year.”
Adele jets in for Obama
AFTER months spent in Los Angeles and New York, Adele has returned to the UK, thanks to her surprising friendship with Michelle Obama.
I can reveal the former First Lady invited the Tottenham-born superstar as a guest for her In Conversation With talk at the O2 Arena in London.
Adele, who lives in LA, is believed to have flown back to the capital over the weekend for Michelle’s big-money event.
An insider said: “Adele and Michelle have become firm friends since they met a couple of years ago and Michelle thought it would be great if Adele would come to her show in London as a VIP guest.”
And it’s not just Adele that managed to wangle an invite as Brit singers Rita Ora and Emeli Sande were also given VIP seats by Michelle’s team.
The Sun exclusively revealed how Michelle and Adele bonded over politics back in 2016.
The singer was invited to the White House by Michelle and spent a couple of days in Washington as her guest.
Then Adele personally invited Michelle to one of her gigs where she dedicated her hit song, Make You Feel My Love, to her. Adele said at the time: “I’d like to dedicate this song to someone I met before the show and you are phenomenal. Everyone loves you in this room.”
Michelle also asked Adele to perform at her 50th birthday party, along with Beyonce.
She was expected to make £4million from last night’s two-hour talk.
That’s enough to rival Adele’s earnings.

Charlie begs forgiveness
CHARLIE Sheen has written to his ex-pal, TV writer and producer Chuck Lorre, to try to end their eight-year feud since the troubled actor was fired from Chuck’s sitcom Two And A Half Men.
So far Chuck hasn’t replied, but speaking in London, Charlie said: “I’ve reached out to him, I’ve written him a letter. I’m almost sociopathically optimistic something good is going to arise from it.”
It may take more than a begging letter. Charlie previously called him a “miserable f***ing douchebag” and a “talentless f***ing sack of s**t”.

Madge’s rock ‘n roles
MADONNA is living up to the “mad” bit of her name with this weird concept for her forthcoming 14th studio album.
On Sunday night she revealed the record will be called Madame X – all about a spy with a variety of disguises, with these photos showing just a few of them.
She said on Instagram: “I decided to call my record Madame X. Madame X is a secret agent, travelling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom and bringing light to dark places.
“Madame X is a dancer, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a mother, a child, a teacher, a nun, a singer, a saint, a whore, and a spy in the house of love. I’m Madame X.”
Erasure of the bees
LIFE is sweet for Erasure frontman Andy Bell now that he’s bought a villa in Spain.
The It Doesn’t Have To Be singer plans to sell honey.
In an exclusive interview, Andy said: “I want to spend more time at my villa and start keeping my own bees and selling honey.” He follows in the foodie footsteps of Blur’s Alex James, who now makes cheese.
The singer is starring in musical comedy Queereteria TV at London’s Above The Stag Theatre – and says he wants to turn the band’s tracks into a stage show.
They’ve definitely got a big back catalogue for it.
