Katherine Jenkins has already ‘forgiven’ the mugger who stole her phone and targeted an elderly woman during a daylight robbery last year.

The 39-year-old singer was hailed a hero after she stepped in to help the elderly woman who was being attacked by a young girl.

It took place on the busy King’s Road in London’s Chelsea during the late afternoon on 6 December when other Christmas shoppers were bustling about.

Opening up on the terrifying incident for the first time, Katherine bravely told Stella magazine: ‘If it happened again, I’d do it again.

‘So many people just walked past. It was an instinct to rush over and, in doing so, I got attacked as well. It’s part of my faith to give people a chance and show forgiveness.’

Katherine admits she was worried about how her husband, Andrew Levitas, would react to her bold intervention during the mugging but felt relieved when he told her: ‘I’m proud of you.’

Hours after the mugging, Katherine incredibly went on to perform at the Henry van Straubenzee charity carol concert at St Luke’s Church.

Explaining her decision to go ahead with the appearance, the classical singer explained: ‘I was shaken up initially. But my instinct is always to keep going, so I got out there. It was a charity. I didn’t want to let them down.’

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested at the scene alongside a friend and pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer.

When the judge asked what she could do to make Katherine feel better, the teen replied: ‘I know that’s not going to make up for what I did.’

In recent weeks, Katherine has been busy entertaining her Instagram followers with live-streamed concerts on social media during the coronavirus pandemic.

The musician shares two children with husband Andrew – daughter Aaliyah, four, and son Xander, 23 months.
