Kate Wright’s father has proudly spoken of the moment he walked his daughter down the aisle as she married Rio Ferdinand, following years of a strained relationship.

The former Towie star tied the knot with the retired England footballer on 27 September at the D Maris Bay Hotel in front of around 100 guests.

It was a particularly special momentous occasion for Kate’s father Phil Wright, as he was able to see his daughter get married despite previous tensions between them.

Speaking to the Sun On Sunday about the wedding, Phil explained: ‘It was an amazing wedding and I felt very proud.

‘There has been a lot of emotion all round . . . it’s been a mad few days.’

Kate, 28, has previously spoken of her ‘upset’ with her father after she wasn’t invited to one of his weddings when she was aged just nine-years-old.

Addressing the situation, Phil now says: ‘It wasn’t just Kate that was upset she didn’t go to my wedding. I was not allowed to invite her.

‘But it was never awkward between me and Kate, it was awkward between me and her mother.’

Kate told You Magazine back in August 2018: ‘I will never forget that. So that’s a big point because I don’t ever want Rio’s kids to feel how I felt when I was younger.’

It seems Phil, 59, couldn’t be more impressed with Kate’s choice of husband and praised his new son-in-law Rio.

‘He is great. He seems to have his head screwed on right,’ he said before adding cheekily: ‘And no doubt he will introduce me to Chelsea’s manager Frank Lampard one day.’

Rio, 40, admitted he was overwhelmed with emotion while marrying Kate and ‘cried’ when he saw his beautiful bride in her wedding dress for the first time.

The former footballer told OK! Magazine: ‘I cried as soon as the day started. Seeing Tia walk up the aisle before Kate set me off. It was just so emotional.

‘There was just no going back on the emotion, that’s why I had to keep my shades on! Seeing Tate and Lorenz walk Kate down the aisle was particularly poignant and we wouldn’t have wanted to do it any other way.’
