Kate Winslet couldn’t fight back the tears on stage as she gave a rousing speech at the premiere of Eating Our Way To Extinction.

The eye-opening documentary, co-directed by her brothers-in-law Ludo and Otto Brockway, explores the impact of the food industry on the environment.

The film includes comments from researchers and experts as well as an appearance from Sir Richard Branson.

The Titanic actress attended the premiere at Odeon Leicester Square in London on Wednesday night and spoke to the audience before the film began.

‘What lies before us is the opportunity to make changes that will help our world prosper and thrive,’ she said.

‘We can all do our bit and it can be done, but not by doing nothing and you are all doing something just by being here in this room. So thank you.’

Turning to how proud she was of Otto and Ludo – stepbrothers of her husband Edward Abel Smith – she added: ‘I’m going to say this bit quickly otherwise I’ll cry.’

She spoke about how the co-directors wanted to ‘change the world’ by travelling to the Amazon Rainforest to make the film, and struggled to speak as she praised their work.

Kate, who narrates the documentary, finished off: ‘Everybody, Eating Our Way To Extinction’ before leaving the stage to applause.
