Kate Middleton dazzles in Alexander McQueen and Princess Diana’s tiara for a reception at Buckingham Palace

Kate Middleton wore a navy velvet gown by one of her go-to designers, Alexander McQueen last night.

While this is the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has been seen in this exact ensemble, the London-based fashion house, which was founded in 1992, is a favourite of hers.

Sarah Burton, McQueen’s Creative Director, was the woman behind the Duchesses’ two wedding dresses and the Duchess regularly opts for the brand’s tailored silhouettes.

She was last seen wearing a McQueen number at the The Royal Variety Performance in November.

The 37-year-old Duchess accessorised the gown with Princess Diana’s Lover’s Knot tiara, which was given to Diana as a wedding gift from the Queen in 1981.

The diamond and pearl headpiece was originally made for the Queen Mother, and Kate first wore it in December 2015 for the Diplomatic Corps reception.

She also sported the Queen’s Royal Order, which features a jewel encased image of the Queen pinned on a chartreuse yellow ribbon and is typically worn on the left shoulder.

The Duchess kept her make-up dewy and natural and swept her hair off her face.

The Duchess made the appearance alongside Prince William to attend the Diplomatic Corps reception, which has a strict ‘white tie and decorations’ dress code and is an evening which highlights the Queen’s importance in democratic relations.
