Kate Garraway has joined in the nationwide clap for NHS staff and carers after it revealed that husband Derek Draper was rushed to hospital with coronavirus symptoms.

It emerged last week that the 52-year-old was in intensive care following the health scare.

And, taking to Instagram, the Good Morning Britain, 52, star shared a video as she took part in the #ClapForCarers initiative.

‘The neighbours added some extra sparkle to tonight’s #clapforcarers,’ she captioned the clip – showing fireworks lighting up the sky behind her home.

‘Thank you thank you – you are all amazing.’

While Kate didn’t share an update on her husband’s condition, fans rushed to wish her family well.

Flooding the post with sweet messages, one replied: ‘Send thoughts to you and your family! Hope your husband is recovering xx.’

‘Sending massive hugs and love to you and your family,’ another commented.

‘Thoughts are with you and the children dear Kate and sending positive vibes to your darling Derek,’ an Instagram user added.

‘Stay safe and look forward to seeing your lovely smiley face again, in the not too distant future. X.’

Kate has been married to the former Labour adviser since 2005, and the couple share children Darcey and William together.

Derek was taken to hospital last week with a confirmed case of Covid-19.

A spokesperson for the presenter confirmed the news to Metro.co.uk in a statement, which read: ‘Kate’s husband, Derek Draper, has been taken to hospital and is being treated in intensive care with a confirmed case of Covid-19.

‘He was admitted on Monday and has since tested positive for the virus.

‘Kate, hasn’t been tested, however she has also been displaying mild symptoms, also since Monday, and as a result has been on strict isolation with her children at home.’

A string of Kate’s ITV co-stars rushed to offer their support, including Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid – while Lorraine Kelly admitted Derek’s diagnosis ‘brought it home’ for her.

‘It brings it home to you, it certainly brought it home to us,’ she told Dr. Hilary Jones during the end of Monday’s Good Morning Britain.

‘We would like to send our love to our Kate and her husband Derek who is in hospital now with coronavirus.

‘It’s a hugely, extremely worrying time for her and it’s just hit us all and we’re just sending out love and our best.’
