Kate Garraway revealed to fans that she had her husband Derek Draper on FaceTime as she clapped for carers on Thursday night while he continues to battle coronavirus in hospital.
The presenter shared a video of a Lego model her son had made to place by his dad’s hospital bed, as she updated her followers on his condition.
She wrote: ‘So our #nhsclap was a little different tonight. We still clapped & cheered as much as ever but I couldn’t film on my phone as had Derek on FaceTime throughout!
‘Of course we can’t KNOW but I believe he can hear us & thought at least the incredible @nhs team’s looking after him would hear a fraction of our gratitude.
‘Billy made this for his Dad’s carers to show how much he means to our family & to say thank you for fighting to bring him back to us.

‘I am hoping they will let Derek have it by his bed. But even if they can’t THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts – you are superheroes .

Kate has been filming her road clapping for the carers working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic each week, while Derek has been fighting for his life in hospital.
The couple have been married for 15 years, and Derek was admitted to hospital in early April after contracting Covid-19.
Derek has been in the intensive care unit and Kate’s Good Morning Britain colleague Ben Shephard recently revealed she has ‘no idea if he’s responding’ when she speaks to him on the phone at night.
Over 233,000 people have contracted coronavirus in the UK so far, with more than 33,600 people dying from the virus.
