Kate Ferdinand opens up on 'out of control' anxiety during first pregnancy with Rio

Kate Ferdinand, 29, spoke candidly about how her pregnancy has affected her mental health, after she and husband Rio Ferdinand, 41, announced they were expecting their first child together back in June earlier this year. The former reality TV star noted how she “struggled” experiencing pregnancy for the first time while still being a mother figure to Rio’s three children Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and nine-year-old Tia, from his first marriage to Rebecca, who tragically died in 2015 from cancer.

In a recent interview, Kate spoke from the heart about her emotions and how she felt “insecure” in the first trimester.

She said: “Lockdown has been an experience.

“Obviously I was pregnant and the children didn’t know, and something I’ve struggled with is being pregnant with my first biological child and still being a mum.

“So I felt I had all these new experiences… but I was still a stepmother or mother figure to three kids.”

Kate leads an active lifestyle but felt her anxiety increase when she wasn’t able to get out and about.

“I struggle with my mental health. Being active helps day-to-day with my anxiety, so when I can’t do things, I struggle with it,” she admitted.

“I want to do everything. Rio says, ‘You need to sit down and relax’. But I feel guilty when I do.

“[Anxiety is] something I’ve suffered with from when I can remember. It can start over the simplest thing, and it’s just my mind playing tricks on me and can get out of control.

In a lengthy Instagram post, she wanted to show her followers the “norm”, after posting a series of glamorous photos.

She penned: “Although in my last few posts I’ve been dressed up…. today I felt I had to share my reality of being pregnant day to day.

“I don’t feel comfy in anything but leggings and a vest right now, and by the end of the day even the leggings are swapped for PJ bottoms! I’m always looking at other pregnant women online and thinking ‘god I don’t look like her’, and I really don’t want anyone to feel like that looking at my posts.

“Sometimes social media can really make the glamorous moments outweigh the norm. But this is me. The truth is, I am hugely struggling with my lower back and groin!”

Kate and Rio are expecting a boy, making the big announcement at their lavish gender reveal party held at their home in Bromley.

The family celebrated underneath billowing streams of blue confetti as guests cheered in the sunshine, quite the day to remember!

Although deliriously happy, Kate couldn’t help but poke fun at the fact she and Tia will be “outnumbered” as they welcome another boy to the male-heavy household.

Rio also shared the same snaps as he posted to social media with the caption: “It’s a BOY!!! The Boys ruling this house #love.”
