Kate and Rio Ferdinand have jetted off to the Maldives for another sun-kissed Christmas, but one of his poor sons is suffering with a broken arm.

The happy couple are celebrating their first Christmas as newlyweds after marrying in September, and appear to have returned to their favourite resort on the beautiful island for the second year in a row.

After recovering from their Christmas Day antics, Kate – formerly Kate Wright – shared a throwback of the family doing handstands on the beach during last year’s December getaway.

Fast forward to now, Kate, Rio and the kids are still on an exotic beach wearing similar red bikinis and swimwear but there’s not a handstand in sight.

‘2018 / 2019 ❤️ no handstands this year as we have a broken arm ?Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you have all had a fabulous day ❤️lots of love,’ Kate captioned the post.

Rio, 41, also shared the photo and added: ‘Wishing everyone out there a very merry Xmas! ??? Next years Xmas card done!! [sic].’

One of Rio’s sons – either Lorenz, 13, or Tate, 11 – is seen wearing a cast on his arm but no doubt the warm weather is making that awkward injury a little better to deal with.

It’s not known where the family are staying this time round, but they settled nicely into the luxury Kuredu Island Resort last December.

At the time, Rio and Kate were celebrating their engagement after the retired England footballer proposed during a trip to Dubai.

Now, they are husband and wife after tying the knot in a beautiful wedding ceremony in Turkey three months ago.

Around 100 guests attended the nuptials and Rio secretly hired singer Ashanti to perform for Kate as a surprise.

Kate, 28, has since opened up about how she knew that Rio was her soulmate as they found each other at difficult times in their lives.

Rio was still dealing with the death of his ex-wife and mother of his children Rebecca, while Kate battling with her mental health.

Speaking to The Sun On Sunday, the former Towie star said: ‘We really did save each other. Rio was at a stage in his life where he had lost his wife and I was also lost.

‘I faced a struggle with anxiety, panic attacks and low self-esteem. They are my family. I love them dearly and they have helped me go on a journey to love myself and figure out who I am.

‘We have all been through bad times and yet we are all together. Going through so much brings you even closer.

‘Rio and the kids mean everything to me.’
