Karim Zeroual: Strictly pro Amy Dowden apologises after painful training accident

Karim Zeroual, 19, and Amy Dowden, 28, have been hard at work in rehearsals all week as they prepare for Saturday night’s second live show of Strictly Come Dancing 2019. Today’s practice session, however, saw the professional dancer accidentally hit her partner in the face mid-routine. In a clip shared with BBC Strictly’s 749,000 Instagram followers, the pair could be seen in the training room, going over a twirl which saw Amy spin into Karim’s arms. Unfortunately, her elbow caught the CBBC presenter’s nose as she spun round, causing her to let out a guilty squeal.

“Ohh! So sorry!” she exclaimed, adding: “Then I did hit his nose!”

“I’m so sorry. Does it hurt?”

Seemingly fine following the incident, Karim simply replied: “I mean, my whole body hurts.

“So, it just adds to the pain,” he quipped.

Karim soldiered on through the pain to continue with their rehearsal.

Elsewhere, last weekend, Karim and Amy took to the Strictly dance floor together for the first time.

The duo debuted their partnership with a Cha Cha Cha which dazzled both the judges and viewers.

They wound up coming second on the leaderboard to Kelvin Fletcher, 35, and Oti Mabuse, 29, scoring an incredible 31 points.

The judges’ comments blew Karim away, causing him to become quite emotional.

“Timing, check. Musicality, check. Personality, check. Choreography, check,” Shirley Ballas, 59, gushed. “Technique for week one, not bad at all, check!”

Speaking to host Claudia Winkleman, 47, after receiving his scores, Karim explained: “I’ve welled up! I cried! I never cry.

“I am blown away, over the moon,” he added.

On to the second show, Karim and Amy will be switching to Ballroom from their fast-paced Latin debut.

This time, the presenter is tackling a Foxtrot, admitting he’s “struggling” with the Ballroom frame.

“I have to be classy and elegant – I’m not,” he said during tonight’s It Takes Two.

“I have to learn how to do my Fred Astaire and not Fred A-scare.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
