Karen Gillan reveals one brilliant Avengers: Endgame scene was entirely improvised

Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of a decade of MCU action, with the details of who survived the battle kept a secret until its premiere.

But not everything was meticulously planned.

Karen Gillan has revealed one of the funniest parts of Endgame was actually improvised with Robert Downey Jr.

The Scottish actress plays Nebula in the MCU, and Endgame opened with the cyborg stranded in space with Tony Stark after the Thanos snap.

Whiling away the hours until their impending demise – until they’re rescued by Captain Marvel, that is – Nebula and Iron Man enjoy a game of paper football, flicking folded pieces of paper over the other’s finger ‘goals’.

And the moment was all improvised.

When asked by the Hollywood Reporter who was better at the game, Karen or Robert, Karen, 32, said: ‘Well, I think it was me because that scene was improvised. And I won.’
Girl/robot power.

Karen, who is currently starring in Jumanji: The Next Level, joined the MCU as Nebula in 2014’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and has gone on to appear in GOTG 2, Infinity War and Endgame.

And Endgame brought the biggest challenge, as the Doctor Who star actually played two characters – 2014 Nebula and present Nebula, with the former travelling to the present to bring Thanos back to life from the past.

Yep, it’s confusing, but trust us.

And not having the full script made filming for Karen very confusing.

She said: ‘The way we differentiated them was by calling them “good Nebula” and “bad Nebula.” I had a lot of time travel questions coming from a time travel background.

‘The directors really kept me on track. So, they were all over that, and I just found out whatever I needed to know for each scene. When I finally watched it, I was like, “Oh, this makes a lot of sense.”’

We will hopefully be seeing Nebula back in Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, which is part of phase four of the MCU.
