Kanye West to stage first ever opera Nebuchadnezzar based on ancient king

Kanye West has announced his first-ever opera, Nebuchadnezzar.

The rapper, who recently became a devout Christian, confirmed he will present the opera at the Hollywood Bowl this Sunday (November 24).

West shared a picture of a golden invitation to the event, which is designed by Nick Knight and features an engraved image of the ancient biblical and Babylonian king, on Twitter.

The opera is directed by Italian performance artist Vanessa Beecroft, one of West’s longtime collaborators, and will feature music by his Sunday Service performers, as well as Peter Colins & Infinities Song.

The opera comes just weeks after the 42-year-old released his latest album, Jesus Is King, after much delay and anticipation.

While he was promoting the record, the father of four mentioned Nebuchadnezzar on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music’s Beats 1 show.

Jesus Is King is the follow-up to his 2018 album, Ye.

The rapper, who is now a Christian, revealed that he tried to ban pre-marital sex among people working on the album.

He said: “There were times where I was asking people not to have pre-marital sex while they were working on the album.

“There were times where I went to people that were working on other projects and said ‘Can you just work and focus on this?’

“I thought if we could all focus and fast – families who pray together stay together.”
