It’s no surprise that Kanye West is already planning his inevitable biopic but it is a surprise who he wants to play him.
You might consider the likes of Michael B Jordan or Chadwick Boseman among those who would be in the running to play arguably one of hip hop’s most divisive characters.
But no, apparently Kanye wants actor Danny McBride to portray him in a future movie about his life.
Guessing we don’t need to state the glaringly obvious issue here…
Recalling the conversation he had with Kanye, Danny told The Guardian: ‘Kanye asked me to play him in a movie of his life.
‘That was a pretty stunning phone call to get.’
We don’t doubt it.
The Eastbound & Down star continued: ‘I don’t know why he wanted me to do it. Maybe that sense of ego I’m able to portray? I have no clue.’
It’s not the first time Danny has revealed Kanye’s hopes, as he previously revealed the news to Jimmy Kimmel last year.
Danny, 43, told the talk show host: ‘He had an idea for a project, which I think is a pretty brilliant idea. He wanted to do a movie about the story of his life, and he wanted me to play him.
‘So I thought it was a cool enough idea to be like, “Yeah, I’d love to hang out and talk about it”. So, he came down [to Charleston], we hung out, went out on a boat, and just talked.’
The pals then headed back to Danny’s house where they watched his son play Fortnite for the evening.
Kanye, 42, might not have far to look for a director as Trey Edward Shults, who helmed It Comes At Night, admitted he would love to take on the big project.
‘My dream is he will somehow see and like my movies and let me pick his brain apart – to make the ultimate one-of-a-kind biopic we haven’t yet seen [that will] explore this man. I think it’d be amazing,’ Trey told The Independent.
‘I think he’s a genius musically, but his public persona – what’s going on there? Is he a crazy man? There’s so much to explore. I don’t even know how I’d do it yet or what period I’d hone in on. I just want to chill out with Kanye and make something great. That’s my dream.’
