Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has heaped praise on Liverpool’s top scorer Mo Salah, calling the forward a ‘God’.

The Egyptian is in line to pick up his first Premier League winners medal with the Reds, having contributed 14 league goals this campaign.

Salah has earned two golden boot awards since joining Anfield from AS Roma in 2017, and Champions League winner Del Piero says he is a different player to the one he saw in Serie A.

Speaking at the Laureus Awards, the Italian said: ‘Salah is already a God – and not only in Egypt.

‘When he was at Roma, I remember how many times he was in front of the goal and then he missed the goal.

‘And then all of a sudden, at Liverpool he improved that and he scored more than 30 goals per season.

‘When you have this kind of mentality that you want to improve yourself, to grow – it’s the best thing.’

Jurgen Klopp’s side require just five more league wins to lift their first ever Premier League trophy and continue their defence of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Del Piero tipped Juventus and Real Madrid as their biggest threats, adding: ‘Juventus are still there, looking for the final time after losing two finals, maybe this is the good one.

‘And Real Madrid have come back. You know the feeling that Real Madrid have with that kind of competition – even if they play bad they win.’
