Justin Timberlake has finally broken his silence after pictures emerged of him holding hands with his co-star Alisha Wainwright last month, and insists nothing romantic happened between them.

The Cry Me A River singer was seen holding hands with Alisha under a table during a boozy night out on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in November, casting scrutiny over his marriage to actress Jessica Biel.

After maintaining a stony wall of silence for two weeks, Justin has now issued a public apology to his wife and admits he ‘should have known better’.

In a statement posted to his Instagram account on Wednesday, the 38-year-old singer said: ‘I stay away from gossip as much as I can, but for my family I feel it is important to address recent rumours that are hurting the people that I love.

‘A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement – but let me be clear – nothing happened between me and my co-star.’

He continued: ‘I drank way too much that night and I regret my behaviour. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son.’

Justin and Jessica, 37, married in 2012 and they share four-year-old son Silas.

Justin Timberlake apology

The popstar concluded the statement: ‘I apologise to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that.

‘I am incredibly proud to be working on Palmer. Looking forward to continuing to make this movie and excited for people to see it.’

So far, Alisha is yet to speak out about the incident.

However, there appears to be no tension between her and Justin as they were spotted together on-set of their forthcoming movie Palmer just a few days after the night out.

Sinner star Jessica also seems to be moving on from the drama as she has been pictured out and about wearing her wedding ring on several occasions since.

After the incident, a source insisted nothing had happened between Justin and Alisha, stating they are just friends.

The insider told The Sun: ‘The video may look a way, but literally it was nothing. It was some friends, members of the team, crew and people like that. They all know each other and were hanging. Like come on, they’re on an open balcony in New Orleans and he’s famous. It was nothing.’

Alisha’s father also spoke out and said Jessica had nothing to worry about, describing his daughter as a ‘very good kid’.
