Denver’s Mayor Michael Hancock vetoed a bill to end the city’s ban on Pit Bulls on February 14.

The City Council held a vote on Monday to overturn his veto and repeal the ban, though not enough members voted to repeal and the ban will stay in affect.

A similar initiative to repeal the ban will be put on the November 2020 ballot, according to the councilman who wrote the measure to repeal, Chris Herndon, Denver Post reported.

The day before the vote Theroux wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo in a booth with his pup Kuma by his side.

He specifically called on City Council member Amanda Saywer to support the ban’s repeal.

‘Amanda, by all accounts you have done an incredible job for District 5, and I implore you to vote on behalf of the pit bulls that are currently in your shelters and living in the shadows of Denver as a result of Denver’s Ban,’ Theroux wrote.

Adding: ‘All they want is the right to be available for adoption from your shelter facilities, get registered, microchipped and be LEGAL… so they can be the the incredible Denver citizens that Kuma and I know they can be.’

He also pleaded to residents saying ‘IF you are a Denver resident, and IF you love, own or would like to rescue one of these animals that so rarely get a second chance, please attend tomorrows vote.’

I'm sad: He slammed the Mayor for allowing the ban to stay in place for the detrimental affects it will have on the breed in Denver 'Yeah yeah... I know I'm a crazy dog guy,' he wrote. 'Don't @ me [right now]. I'm just sad af about this. With all the crazy unsolvable s**t in this world, this one was so easy'

As the results of the ban staying in place came in, he slammed the ban and the effect it has on the breed.

‘The Denver Pit Bull Ban stands,’ he wrote. ‘This will result in the continued and unnecessary deaths of thousands of dogs. This is a tragedy for a breed that is already murdered in greater numbers than any other breed in our country.

He called out Mayor Hancock saying he should stand against dog fighting of all breeds and that ‘People [who] profit, neglect or abuse dogs in any way is the problem…Not the dog or the breed.’

Theroux continued saying that the city should implement a ‘no kill’ policy and that Mayor Hancock owes Animal Control workers an apology since they have to put down the dogs.
