Justin Dellario, Twitch – ‘Esports and Twitch Are Synonymous’

Justin Dellario Twitch Hive Video Interview

Outside of the Overwatch League Database-Link-e1521645463907, there aren’t many prominent examples of esports leagues or tournaments that are still exclusive to a single streaming platform—and that typically works in Twitch’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 favor. Whether exclusive or not, any major tournament or event is likely to be available via the streaming platform, and many users are invested in using the platform.

As Twitch Head of Esports Justin Dellario sees it, the company and esports are significantly intertwined—and with sales and events operations, Twitch is invested in the broader growth of esports beyond just broadcasting.

“Esports and Twitch are kind of synonymous—it’s very much in our DNA,” he told The Esports Observer at the recent HIVE Berlin conference. “The growth of esports and the growth of Twitch have pretty much moved along at the same pace. We don’t just think about our role in esports as one to just be strictly a distributor, but we think in a lot of ways about how we can help grow the space and create value for other segments as well.”

Watch the full interview above for more of Dellario’s thoughts on Twitch’s place in the esports industry, whether traditional media companies will take on similar sales and events roles, and how the success of battle royale shooters like Fortnite Database-Link-e1521645463907 and PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Database-Link-e1521645463907 can help shape the next big gaming segment.
