Just Dance Memories campaign to raise £30,000 for charity


Just Dance 2020 does its bit for charity

Ubisoft has teamed up with Alzheimer’s Research UK to try and raise money by fans sharing their memories of the franchise on social media.

The Just Dance games are already used to help those with disabilities and mobility issues, but now Ubisoft UK hopes to use it to raise awareness and money for researching and combatting Alzheimer’s.

The publisher has announced it will be joining forces with Alzheimer’s Research UK to help raise money by sharing videos using the hashtag #JustDanceMemories to highlight how ‘dance connects us to our loved ones’.

For every share or retweet on social media Ubisoft will donate £1 to the charity. You don’t have to own any version of the game to take part, just share the hashtag on the social media of your choice.

The goal is to help raise £30,000, which Alzheimer’s Research UK hopes will go towards helping to bring about ’the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025’.

A campaign film has also been released, which features Alzheimer’s Research UK supporter Lynne Wadsworth and her mum, Anne Bath, who suffers from dementia but still loves to dance. Ubisoft has said they will also add £1 for every time the video is shared online.

‘I’m so proud to be part of this campaign with Ubisoft and Alzheimer’s Research UK,’ said Lynne.

‘We used to buy Just Dance every Christmas and play it as a family, even my mam and dad would get up dancing. She met my dad at a dance hall and he always calls Mam the ‘Dancing Queen’. Now that Mam is in the late stages of dementia, she is a completely different person and can no longer communicate with us. But when we attend the dance class, something changes inside her and I know that she is still there.’

Just Dance 2020 is out now on Wii, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. Its release is also notable for being the last Wii game ever.
