Jurgen Klopp rules out Philippe Coutinho transfer as boss admits Liverpool will NOT spend ‘big, big money’ this summer

JURGEN KLOPP has conceded Liverpool can’t afford a “big, big-money signing” of Philippe Coutinho.

The Reds boss, however, wishes his former star to “find luck” at Barcelona.

Coutinho, 27, left Anfield to join the Catalans in a staggering £142million deal in January 2018.

The Brazil international, however, has failed to live up to the hype with Barca now looking to offload the midfielder.

And Klopp insists that, although he still holds Coutinho in high regard, he is not planning a Merseyside reunion with his former ace.

The German coach claims Liverpool won’t be able to spend big this summer having splashed more than £300m over the last two years on new players.

Klopp told ESPN: “In general, Phil Coutinho helps each team in the world, still – 100%.

“It’s not about that. I like Phil, I think he’s a fantastic footballer and all that stuff, but it would be a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big-money signing and it’s not our year for that.

“It’s just not possible. As I said, having him would make each team better – us included – but I really hope that he finds his luck at Barcelona.

“Or maybe he found it there. We have contact, but not that close contact that I know exactly how he is doing, but the rest is only newspaper talk and stuff like that.

“If everything was true what newspapers write about me – wow!

“If it’s similar to what they write about me, I would say he’s completely happy at Barcelona and wants to sign a new six-year contract or whatever.”

Barca are believed to be desperate to sell Coutinho in order to raise funds for a blockbuster swoop for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

And the midfielder has also been touted as a potential makeweight in a swap deal for the PSG forward.
