Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to his players after Liverpool smashed Leicester City to move 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

After a cagey first 30 minutes at the King Power Stadium, Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino headed home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s sublime cross to give Liverpool the lead.

James Milner doubled the visitors’ advantage after half-time from the penalty spot and Firmino added Liverpool’s third with Liverpool’s 500th goal under German manager Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold then capped off a superb performance with an exquisite strike as the Reds put four goals past their nearest Premier League title rivals without reply.

The win sees Premier League leaders Liverpool move 13 points clear of second-placed Leicester and 14 ahead of defending champions Manchester City, who Wolves on Friday evening.

Reacting to Liverpool’s hugely impressive victory over the Foxes, Klopp said: ‘We had to work so hard for this.

‘I couldn’t be less interested in that [talk that the title race is over] to be honest. It was a good game. We finished so strong and scored some great goals.

‘We are not listening to any of that. We are focused on our next game only.

‘We can still improve… how we manage games, how we defended in the first half. But we can enjoy this amazing win. And tomorrow we start again.’

Reds midfielder James Milner added: ‘I think it was important to start well, we knew they would be fired up.

‘In the first half we weren’t as clinical as we could have been but it was a great performance and to get the number of goals was pleasing. A good, solid performance.

‘It was a big penalty. We had had a few chances and they are always dangerous so it’s nice to put it in.’
