Jurgen Klopp provides Jordan Henderson update – with major concern for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has admitted Jordan Henderson’s injury looks “serious enough” after the Liverpool midfielder was taken off in the early stages of their Champions League last-16 second leg victory over Bayern Munich.

Henderson was hauled off in the 13th minute by Klopp and replaced by Fabinho after continuing to play on following a clash with Bayern’s James Rodriguez.

The former Sunderland midfielder appeared to roll his ankle and Klopp hinted he could be facing a spell on the sidelines.

“Hendo’s twisted ankle, we have to see,” said the German. “It looks serious enough, and when you have to change in the middle of the park it’s not ideal.

“We didn’t want to ‘rest’ Fabinho but we wanted to bring in fresh legs. Hendo had fresh legs but it didn’t help his ankle!

Henderson was taken off early in the game

“We had to change a little bit, and we wanted to play more football than we did in the first half. The second half that was much better.

“We scored wonderful goals, an outstanding first goal, wow, but we conceded one as well. I think after 45 minutes, everybody knew it would not be easy. It was possible, but not easy. That’s how I saw it.”

Sadio Mane struck twice for Liverpool with Virgil van Dijk also finding the net in a 3-1 win which completed the set of four English teams all through to the last eight of the competition.

Klopp added: “In a game like this you can never rest. It is absolutely deserved. It is so difficult to play here away at Bayern Munich.

“It is a big one. I am so proud of the boys. The first goal, I will want to watch it back like 1,000 times!

Klopp hailed his side’s display

“Defensively it was so good. We didn’t defend the way we do usually in the away games of the Champions League but today we did.

“Virgil van Dijk gives organisation on set-pieces and he is dangerous. He is a massive threat. The size we have and the power we have… it was a big goal.

“In a game like this, there will be mistakes but you have to stay in the game. Control the moments you can control and stay in the game. The game didn’t look like Bayern ever outplayed us.

“We scored the other two and could have scored another one with that chance for Mohamed Salah.”
