Jurgen Klopp refused to be drawn into questions about a potential transfer move for Timo Werner after the striker heaped praise on Liverpool.
The RB Leipzig star recently said he was honoured to be linked with Liverpool amid reports the Reds are poised to trigger his £50million release clause.
Liverpool have until April to complete the deal at that price, but Klopp remained tight lipped on his interest in Werner ahead of the Reds’ trip to Watford.
‘I prefer that when players speak about us they are positive, rather than saying “that’s the last club I would ever go to”,’ Klopp said of Werner’s comments.
‘From that point of view it’s obviously nice, but that’s all, there’s nothing else to say about it.’
Werner is under contract at Leipzig until 2023 and has already scored 31 goals this season, as well as chipping in with eight assists for his team-mates.
The Germany international would have to battle Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah for a starting place at Liverpool, but Werner appears eager to embrace the challenge.
‘I know Liverpool is the best team in the moment in the world,’ Werner told Viasport.
‘When you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud.
‘But in case of that, it’s a pleasure but I know at Liverpool there are a lot of good players and I know I have to improve myself to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.’
After three quiet transfer windows in a row, Liverpool are expected to be busy this summer.
The Reds are on the verge of winning their first ever Premier League title and Klopp is eager to consolidate and improve an already talented squad.
