Jurgen Klopp instructed to take Troy Deeney's brutal Liverpool comments on board

Jurgen Klopp has been instructed to take Troy Deeney’s Liverpool comments on board following defeat by Watford.

The Reds’ unbeaten run in the Premier League was dramatically ended when the relegation-threatened Hornets put three past Liverpool without response.

Deeney was asked to reveal how Watford worked out a way of doing the one thing no other team has been able to do in the English top-flight this season.

And the 31-year-old striker explained that the home side set out to target Liverpool’s weak link – who in this case was Dejan Lovren.

“[Virgil] van Dijk is a class act and, for me, is probably in the top five defenders in the world,” Deeney told Sky Sports.

“It is tough to get anything from him; he is 6ft 6ins, fast and strong, so you try to pick on the weaker of the two.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to Lovren and say he is the weaker of the two but I knew he wanted to fight me as well, and that is my game, so if you want to try and fight me you are going to have to be in for a tough night.

“He did that for the first goal, trying to fight me for the throw-in and then I obviously rolled him and we scored. He is trying to fight me instead of watching the ball and we scored.”

Liverpool fans responded to Deeney’s comments on social media, with one demanding: “Klopp please read this and learn.”

Another said Lovren should be dropped, while a third suggested Deeney’s eyes must have lit up when he saw he’d be playing against the Croatian – a man he knew he could beat for strength.
