Jurgen Klopp hailed his history-making Reds as they joined the ranks of the all-time greats.
A dramatic late victory over West Ham took them within four wins of the title…and also means they now jointly hold the record for all time consecutive wins in the top flight with 18 alongside Manchester City’s title winners of two years ago.
And the Anfield win means they also equal the record for consecutive home wins in top flight English football history, which was previously held by Liverpool themselves between January and December 1972.
A proud Klopp admitted that his brilliant squad set out to make history – and they have proved just how special they are by achieving it. “I never thought it would be broken or equalled,” he said.

“We said at the start that we wanted to create history and write our own stories and the players have clearly taken that seriously. You are right the numbers are unbelievable, we know that it is special.
“We did it and I cannot believe it happened to be honest. Whatever will happen this season is an effort of all of us. We all know that these numbers are very special.
“But we have to be ready to fight to the end as everybody is fighting for everything right now.”
Liverpool came from behind to win with late goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, as visiting keeper Lukasz Fabianski had a nightmare, despite West Ham putting up a huge fight.

For Klopp, the spirit of his side is most special of all. “It was difficult but we got over the line, and we have done that every time, which shows just how much fight we have,” he said.
“You need to have different ways. There were so many things we could do better but to reach this number of games, you cannot be brilliant all the time. We just try to make the best of what we have. I am pleased with the attitude we showed. “
For West Ham boss David Moyes it was a painful end to a brilliant display from his side, but he insisted that a defeat at Liverpool is not the crucial point of his season.

“I Just said in the dressing room tonight this wasn’t a big game, neither was Man City, the big games start now – the players were told that in the dressing room afterwards, the big games are coming up.
“I have to praise the players for their effort and commitment, even at the end we looked like we will would get an equaliser at the end.”
They didn’t because of two howlers from keeper Fabianski and Moyes added: “He had a couple of really good saves, but if I am being honest I think he should stop the first one as well.
“When you come to Anfield you always need your goalie to play well, no matter how good you are.”
