Jurgen Klopp has described the injury suffered by Dejan Lovren in Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth as ‘not too serious’ after the defender limped off during the first half on Saturday afternoon.

Lovren was forced off 40 minutes into the contest at the Vitality Stadium, replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool went on to win 3-0.

With Joel Matip already sidelined with a knee problem there was concern over the Croatian, but Klopp does not seem too worried, believing it was just cramp – the same problem which kept Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana out of the match day squad this weekend.

‘Always you don’t know exactly but it looks not too serious, it looks like a little cramp,’ said the German. ‘He felt something, he told us, said he for sure could go to half-time, wanted to have treatment there and carry on, but we said no and stopped it there.

‘That’s the status quo, you have these kind of things in this moment of the season. It is similar to what Gini [Wijnaldum] and Adam Lallana had – not serious but serious enough to keep them out.

‘Now we have two days to make sure they can go again. That’s what I think at the moment but I don’t know 100 per cent.

‘Apart from that it was a perfect game. All round nearly perfect day.’

Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah gave the Reds the win on the south coast and takes them 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League with Leicester playing on Sunday against Aston Villa.

Manchester City have fallen further behind in the title race with a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United and are now 14 points behind the Reds.

Klopp’s men are back in action in the Champions League at Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday.
