Naby Keita was hooked off during the second half of Liverpool’s famous Carabao Cup win over Arsenal due to an injury, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The midfielder came off in the 55th minute of a frantic 5-5 draw between the two Premier League sides, with his replacement Curtis Jones scoring the winning penalty on a dramatic night at Anfield.

Klopp – who has threatened to withdraw his side from the quarter-finals if a suitable date is not found for the tie, which clashes with their Club World Cup commitments – hailed the evening as a ‘nearly perfect night’, although he will be sweating on the fitness of the Guinea international.

‘If Naby’s injury is not so serious, which I hope, then it was a nearly perfect night,’ Jürgen Klopp said after the match.

‘He felt a little bit. I saw it, he slipped when he lost the ball.

‘He slipped away, I saw him limping afterwards and that’s why we did it.’

Liverpool will be in the hat for the next round when the draw is made on Thursday morning.

They will be drawn against one of Manchester City, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Colchester United, Oxford United, Manchester United or Everton in the last-eight.

Liverpool take on Aston Villa next in the Premier League on Saturday.
