Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool games Sadio Mane will miss through injury

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Sadio Mane will miss Liverpool’s Premier League matches against West Ham and Southampton.

The Reds boss hopes that after this time the Senegal international will be fit to return to the starting XI to aid Liverpool’s title charge.

Mane suffered a muscle injury in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Wolves, and was forced to make way for Takumi Minamino.

On Tuesday, Klopp announced: “Sadio will not be involved against West Ham and probably not Southampton. After that he should be fine.”

The Reds boss added: “He has a small muscle tear which is serious enough. We were lucky with it though it wasn’t too serious.”

Liverpool take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Wednesday night before playing host to Southampton this Saturday.

The Reds then face Shrewsbury in a FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Klopp has vowed not to pick any first team stars in the match, insisting they need a winter break, despite having played just one fixture more than League One Shrewsbury at this point in the season.

“I have to make decisions which are not popular,” said Klopp on Tuesday.

“I have to make decisions based on the situation we are in. I feel a bit sorry for Shrewsbury because everyone spoke about what I said and not them.”

On why the replay rule should be scrapped, he added: “Most times in my life I worked and played for lower league teams. Replays cannot be the answer. Shrewsbury could have won the penalty shoot-out and gone through.”
