Jurgen Klopp says he may be tempted to stay at Liverpool beyond the conclusion of his current contract in 2024, in a slight change of tune from his previous statements on his future.

The German has brought unprecedented success to the club in the Premier League era, claiming the title for the first time last season to add to the Champions League they won the previous year.

He signed a new contract in December last year that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2023/24 season and Klopp has repeated his intention to leave Anfield when that deal comes to an end.

However, his latest answer to a question on his future has hinted that he may be convinced to remain at the club, and certainly has not ruled out a longer stay.

‘I still have four years left on my contract. It’s an eternity in football. I do not know what I will do in four years,’ Klopp told Leeroy will’s wissen!.

‘Maybe I want to think about whether I should extend my contract or not. If I do not, I will go on vacation.

‘But I know that I do not want to leave Liverpool and begin somewhere else the next day. That will certainly not happen.’

In contrast, Klopp has said before that 2024 would be the end of his Liverpool journey.

‘Four years in Liverpool, then do nothing for a year,’ Klopp told SWR Sport of his future plans. ‘Perhaps a club, a team, or nothing. But in five years the world can look very different again.’

The German is clearly keeping his options open and he is well aware how much things can change at a club in a short space of time.

Some Liverpool fans called for him to be handed a lifetime contract after Premier League glory last season, but he knows that sentiment will eventually change.

‘Well a present I can make to our supporters is that I don’t sign a lifetime contract because there will be a time when they don’t want to see me anymore,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘But we still have good memories together, so that’s already a promise I won’t sign a lifetime contract. But I will be here for a while.’
